The Fox’s Cloak

May 20, 2009

Finally, another update. This time with some watercolour tests of fox fur for a story with the same name as this post. Originally to be lino prints and watercolour but now just watercolour, possibly with some digital doo-da in there as well.

foxfurSome experiments with painting the fox fur colour. In order: top, then bottom right then bottom left (it’s on its side a little). First: too solid a yellow base. Second: lose the black. Third: preferred one, started putting in a little of the black too.

foxheadAbove is the first yellow (it is yellow) base of a tester fox head.

Birds of a feather?

April 15, 2009

Drawing project: Collections. Drawing with my feather collection and with words I heard while sitting for an hour (also with light, seeing as they’re photographs).

Ultimately, they’re both irrelevant in the scale of things but it’s nice to wonder anyway.

I think…

Interesting name mentioned in the seminar today that goes nicely with my work: Descartes

He questioned things alot too. Okay, so not an arty research topic but I like his way of thinking.

Making Meaning – Week 1

February 9, 2009

Things are only as complex as the complexity of their analysis.

Idea:

A couple of years or so ago, me and a friend had a conversation over MSN about pretty much everything the human mind can question; from fate to life after death and so on. I’d call it a pretty complex analysis.

The idea is to illustrate this conversation into a small book (taking from the last project). I’m hoping it’d kinda come across as like a journey of these two little characters – drawn in a simple style (based of a comic this friend did: S n T Umbrella

The backgrounds are of things they’re talking about that are digitally painted in a much more complex way.

After doing a mini mock up of the book I’ve started doing little sketches in it along with the text (Tudor Humphries suggested it, I liked the idea). Thing is, it’s 64 pages…which is actually 30 pictures… I’m cutting it down.
